ThyssenKrupp Elevator reinforces market position in Malaysia
ThyssenKrupp Elevator acquired service business of MBf-Norinco, Kuala Lumpur
ThyssenKrupp Elevator Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG in Düsseldorf, Germany, has acquired the service business of MBf-Norinco Sdn. Bhd. (MBf) in Kuala Lumpur. MBf is a well known independent lift maintenance company in Malaysia. The maintenance portfolio consists mainly of Dongyang elevators from Korea. As ThyssenKrupp Elevator acquired the majority of Dongyang Elevator in October 2003, lots of synergies can be reached in maintaining the portfolio of MBf in Malaysia. "Our colleagues from ThyssenKrupp Dongyang Elevator will give us all technical backup and the necessary spare parts to serve our customers", says Allan Bell, Managing Director of ThyssenKrupp Elevator Malaysia. This acquisition gives ThyssenKrupp Elevator a service market share of approximately 10% in Malaysia.
In November 2002 ThyssenKrupp Elevator entered into the Malaysian market through the acquisition of Mahkota`s service business. Since then the company has experienced a remarkable growth. With around 150 branches and bases in Korea, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, ThyssenKrupp Elevator is already a significant player in Asia. "South East Asia and Malaysia in particular play an important role in our expansion plans in Asia", says Helmut Mueller, Chief Executive Officer of ThyssenKrupp Elevator Asia.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator is also committed to research and development, setting new benchmarks in the industry. TWIN, the most recent innovation of ThyssenKrupp Elevator, will be actively marketed in Malaysia. It is a sophisticated elevator system with two cars. one arranged upon the other - in one single shaft. The two cars are not connected with each other and can drive independently to different levels using the same track. This translates into advantages including higher lift capacities and less construction volume. For example, a group of four conventional elevators - that is one elevator per shaft - 40% more passengers can quickly move from one level to the other while also adding 25% more available space. The TWIN elevator system has won several awards including the recent "Elevator World Project of the Year Award" by Elevator World magazine in January 2004.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator runs a specialized Technical Customer Service Center where top-quality technical support for all our customer`s equipment is provided daily. The expertise and resources of these facilities enable ThyssenKrupp Elevator to service elevator systems from all manufacturers. The first Technical Customer Service Center of this kind serving Asia was opened end of July 2004 in Shanghai. Additional centers are located in the US and in Europe.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the third-largest elevator company in the world and has a presence in more than 60 countries at over 800 locations. With over 30,000 employees, the company achieved sales of around 3.4 billion euros in the fiscal year to September 30, 2003. Capabilities include passenger and freight elevators, escalators and moving walks, stair and platform lifts, passenger boarding bridges as well as high-quality service for the entire product range.
