The memory of Krupp, Thyssen, and thyssenkrupp: documents, photographs, and films from more than 200 years of industrial history.
Two archives preserve the history of thyssenkrupp and its predecessor companies. thyssenkrupp Corporate Archives in Duisburg holds the records of the Thyssen Group, the Hoesch Group, and thyssenkrupp AG.
The history of the Krupp company and the Krupp family is documented by the Krupp Historical Archive of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation at Villa Hügel in Essen. Both archives support historical research – on-site research is also possible upon prior written request.
thyssenkrupp Corporate Archives
As the company's knowledge repository and long-term memory, thyssenkrupp Corporate Archives acquires and preserves legally and historically significant records of the thyssenkrupp Group, the former Thyssen Group with its subsidiaries and holdings, the Hoesch Group, and the Foundation for the Industrial History of Thyssen.
The holdings range from the mid-19th century to the present day and comprise documents, maps and plans, films and photographs, digital media, posters and medals – from the Hoesch archive in Dortmund via Rheinstahl in Essen to the August Thyssen-Hütte in Duisburg.
The archive is established in 1961 as the academically managed company archive of August Thyssen-Hütte AG and expanded over the following decades into the corporate archive of the Thyssen Group. Since the 1999 merger it has performed this function for thyssenkrupp AG; since 2020 it has operated under the name thyssenkrupp Corporate Archives.

Krupp Historical Archive
The Krupp Historical Archive is established in 1905, in preparation for the company's centenary, as the company archive of Krupp – making it the oldest German corporate archive of its modern kind. In the same year, Margarethe Krupp founds the Hügel family archive; the two archives are merged in 1958 under the name Historisches Archiv.
The holdings comprise the family archive of the Krupp and von Bohlen und Halbach families, the records of the cast steel factory and group management, and extensive special collections – including some 1.9 million photographs dating back to around 1860.
Since 1998, the archive has been owned by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation and operates at Villa Hügel as the center for Krupp history.

Family archive

Personal papers and secretarial records of members of the Krupp family concerning company affairs, membership in clubs, associations, and committees, travels, and genealogical research — including the history of the von Ende family (Margarethe von Ende married Friedrich Alfred Krupp) and the von Bohlen und Halbach family. For the period up to 1848 also company records.
