Seamlessly rolled rings from thyssenkrupp rothe erde are high-performance structural components for demanding applications in the aerospace industry. They are used wherever components must withstand extreme loads, significant temperature fluctuations, and the highest quality requirements.

In modern production facilities, rings are manufactured from titanium, aluminum, nickel-based alloys, and other industry-specific specialty materials. Precise rolling and pressing processes ensure consistent quality, high strength, and reliable component properties — for use in civil aviation and space missions.

With many years of experience and a high level of manufacturing expertise, thyssenkrupp rothe erde supports the development of ever-larger and more powerful components for the aerospace industry.

Ariane 5

rothe erde rings made of aluminum for the Ariane 5 satellite support structure have a diameter of up to 5.5 meters and weigh only between 23 and 57 kg.

Ariane 6

The launch vehicle is equipped with aluminum panels from thyssenkrupp Aerospace, which are installed as a thrust structure at the upper end of the rocket.

Speltra & Sylda

Aluminum rings with a diameter of up to 5.5 meters were used in the satellite support structures.

More sustainable fuels for the flight industry

Global air traffic accounts for around 3.5 percent of anthropogenic global warming to date. To support the aviation industry on its path toward greater climate sustainability, thyssenkrupp provides key technologies for the production of more sustainable aviation fuels.

thyssenkrupp nucera and thyssenkrupp Uhde offer plant solutions for the production of green hydrogen and green methanol. Both substances are key feedstocks for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and thus important building blocks for a lower-emission aviation industry.

In addition, thyssenkrupp Uhde is collaborating with partners such as BASF Process Catalysts, OMV Germany, DLR, and ASG to develop process steps for converting green methanol into synthetic kerosene. The goal of the publicly funded project M2SAF is a sustainable aviation fuel that can be used 100 percent directly in aircraft engines — low-emission and without fossil raw materials.

Carbon2Chem® is a collaborative project coordinated by thyssenkrupp focused on industrial CO₂ recycling. Together with partners from research and industry, process gases are being harnessed as a valuable source of carbon. This can lead to the production of chemical precursors such as green methanol and hydrogen, which are also relevant for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). In the third phase of the project, the value chain will be specifically expanded toward sustainable aviation fuels — as a contribution to lower-emission aviation and the green transformation of the industry.
