The role of a speak-up culture

To mark World Whistleblower Day on June 23, thyssenkrupp is drawing attention to the importance of a functioning speak-up culture in the group. The whistleblowing system plays an important role in this. Information from whistleblowers helps us counter misconduct at an early stage and reduce risks for our company, our employees and our business partners.

"A well-functioning speak-up culture and also the whistleblowing system play an important role in identifying conscious or unconscious misconduct," explains Sebastian Lochen, Group General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at thyssenkrupp.

"We encourage our employees to openly address mistakes and, if the need arises, to report violations. We create safe and secure channels for such reports."

The whistleblower system, which also meets the requirements of the recently adopted Whistleblower Protection Act in Germany, allows information on misconduct to be reported anonymously, so that whistleblowers can act in a protected manner. However, the interests worthy of protection of the persons affected by a report are also taken into account. In addition to the central contact of the Compliance department and an electronic whistleblower system available in 34 languages, employees can also contact the responsible compliance officers and managers or supervisors directly.
