Over 40 years of professional experience and commitment

Senad Cajlakovic, born in 1965 in the former Yugoslavia and in Germany since 1974, lives in the beautiful Lower Rhine region and has been with thyssenkrupp Uhde for over 40 years. His career began in 1982 at Krupp Koppers in Essen as a technical draughtsman for mechanical engineering, before he made the transition to thyssenkrupp Uhde in Dortmund in 1997 after the two companies were merged. There he continued his work in chemical plant engineering and developed into an experienced SPID administrator in the engineering department.

New career paths advice

Senad’s career has been shaped by his early decision to join thyssenkrupp, which his teacher recommended due to his hearing impairment. As a student, he was interested in machinery and vehicles, aspiring to become a mechanic. “My former teacher’s advice was to seek a ’barrier-free’ work environment due to my hearing impairment; she recommended thyssenkrupp, so I started there. Not as a mechanic, but it still involved machinery,” he reflects. Since then, he has led numerous projects and has played a significant role in optimizing and managing project data.

His tasks started with drafting at the drawing board. He later transitioned to Computer-Aided Design (CAD), a software that allows drawing and modeling of technical designs on the computer. Since gaining that skill, he has been active in the CAD department. As a SPID administrator today, Senad coordinates various projects and is responsible for structuring and managing the database. “I oversee tasks and create lists for process engineering and piping as needed,” he explains. His daily work involves the precise creation and maintenance of specific files such as piping specifications and equipment lists.

Sustainability in career and daily life

Sustainability plays a significant role in both Senad’s professional and personal life. At thyssenkrupp Uhde, he is part of an organization that places great emphasis on environmentally friendly practices and sustainability.

“At thyssenkrupp, this topic is highly prioritized, and we adhere to it.”

Privately, he advocates for waste separation and conscious consumption, reflecting his values and beliefs – and short bike rides are part of that too.

What particularly excites Senad about his work is “the diversity of projects in different countries and collaborating with colleagues internationally.” The opportunity to solve complex technical challenges on the computer is vital to him. “Above all, I am enthusiastic about the implementation opportunities offered by the computer,” he adds. A special highlight to him is that, “In addition to the many interesting projects in the office in Dortmund or working from home, I have also enjoyed my time in Switzerland, where I worked on several projects for nine months.”

“Seize the opportunities offered”

At thyssenkrupp Uhde, Senad appreciates the career opportunities and the appreciation of employees.

“thyssenkrupp offers good career opportunities, various divisions, and employees are highly valued."

He experiences a work environment that fosters diversity and personal development, where he has been able to develop professionally for many years – something that is a clear recommendation for young professionals. “Don't hesitate, just come and seize the opportunities offered,” he advises. His own story is proof of how a solid education and the willingness to face new challenges can lead to a fulfilling and successful career.

In his free time, Senad enjoys spending time with his wife, staying active in sport and volunteering. "I volunteer as chairman of a deaf sports club in Duisburg," he says proudly. Traveling and getting to know new cultures also enriches his life and allows him to gain new experiences outside of work.
