thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology is one of the major innovative partners in Hungary. The Electric and Electronic Competence Center (E/E CC) in Budapest is unique in its kind – establishment in 1999. Three doctoral students came up with the idea, it caught the interest of thyssenkrupp and the foundation was laid for one of the first research and development centers in Hungary. Nowadays we are present in six locations around Hungary.

thyssenkrupps E/E Competence Center employs more than 1,100 highly skilled software and hardware development engineers. The 'smart' electromechanical steering systems developed by thyssenkrupp in Budapest, Veszprém, and Szeged serve some of the world’s largest OEMs, offering a wide range of cutting-edge driver assistance solutions and compatibility with the highest-level autonomous driving systems. Beyond steer-by-wire technology — which replaces mechanical connections with purely electronic links — thyssenkrupp also develops proprietary applications to support autonomous systems. Its globally unique 'advanced development' division explores future-oriented automotive innovations that do not yet exist today. The Competence Center is recognized as one of the world’s leading centers in its field.

In addition to development, thyssenkrupp is also engaged in manufacturing and assembly. At its site in Jászfényszaru, the company produces electromechanical steering systems, overhead camshafts and components for electric vehicles. In Debrecen stabilizers and springs are manufactured, while in Győr thyssenkrupp operates axle assembly. Today, thyssenkrupp ranks among Hungary’s top 100 employers and top 50 exporters. The company currently employs more than 3,100 people in Hungary.

In 1999, the Competence Center in Budapest was established as a result of a collaboration between the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and thyssenkrupp. Today, it is considered to be one of the best of its kind in the world.

Dr. László Naszádos (Academy Relations Lead) has received two outstanding awards: at the end of 2023, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics awarded him the Pro Facultate Prize for his work over the past 20 years, which has been instrumental in the cooperation between thyssenkrupp and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (VIK) of the BME. The award is a particularly high honour, as it is typically given to the university's own lecturers.
