ESG information for Capital Markets

Sustainability is a core component of our corporate strategy. We aim to supply innovative products, technologies and services worldwide that contribute to the sustainable success of our customers.

thyssenkrupp provides continuous and fully integrated reporting on its sustainability performance within its annual report and on its corporate website. Accordingly, the sustainability report is made up of various documents. The overview page on sustainability provides links to all key content.

Sustainability strategy and targets

Environment, Social, Governance (ESG)

Environmental and Energy Management

thyssenkrupp attaches great importance to the topics of environmental protection, climate change and energy efficiency – from supply chain to internal processes to customers. With our solutions we want to help meet rising demand for goods and services in a resource-efficient way. Environmental protection is therefore a core element of thyssenkrupp’s sustainability efforts and thus its corporate strategy.

Further information

thyssenkrupp aims to become climate neutral by 2050 at the latest and sets ambitious interim targets

  • Climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest

  • Climate neutrality in Germany by 2045 (in line with the requirements of the German Climate Act)

  • Emission reductions in line with the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement (Science-based Target Initiative (SBTi))

Further information

thyssenkrupp Steel’s climate strategy

The goal is clear: Steel production at thyssenkrupp is planned to be carbon-neutral by 2045. With our climate strategy, we are stepping up our previous activities to reduce emissions, accepting our social responsibility and showing our commitment to the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. The new SBTi Net Zero Standard, along which we will have our targets verified, requires at least 90% reduction of our own emissions (Scope 1), from energy purchases (Scope 2) and in the supply chain (Scope 3) by 2050. As an initial target for 2030, thyssenkrupp Steel is aiming to reduce emissions from its own production and processes and from the purchase of energy by more than 30 percent versus the base year 2018.

Hydrogen: Energy carrier for the future

We live in times of change. Crises and challenges determine our everyday lives, and the economy is facing the largest renewal program since the Industrial Revolution: the green transformation of the industry. Our society and our industry need a sustainable system to replace fossil fuels with their long-term CO2 emissions. This is the only way we can stop climate change. The solution? Hydrogen. The most common chemical element in the universe is clean and readily available. Produced using renewable energies, so-called green hydrogen, as a potentially CO2-free raw material, is gaining importance worldwide. For us at thyssenkrupp, hydrogen is essential for our own transformation. But we go even further. With our expertise along the entire hydrogen value chain, we support entire industries on the path to climate neutrality.

Further information

Occupational safety & health

Occupational safety and health protection form the basis of everything we do.

Whoever works at thyssenkrupp should be safe and stay healthy. Every day, at every site and at every single workplace. Regardless of whether he or she is employed by thyssenkrupp or by an external company working for us.

We meet this requirement twofold: We are committed to ensuring that we not only implement the right rules and processes. More importantly, we make sure we all have the right attitude.

Further information

Diversity & Inclusion

Openness, equal opportunities and mutual respect are core values of our corporate culture.

Because the working environment in the individual countries, plants and teams at thyssenkrupp is just as diverse as our roughly 100,000 employees worldwide. And that's a good thing.

Innovation requires openness and curiosity for diverse approaches to solutions. The more perspectives, the better. That's why we see diversity in our workforce as an enrichment that we encourage and support at every level – it is a lever for better performance.

Corporate Governance

The term “corporate governance” stands for responsible corporate management and control geared to long-term value creation. Efficient cooperation between Executive Board and Supervisory Board, respect for shareholder interests, openness and transparency of corporate communications are key aspects of good corporate governance.

Further information

Compensation system / Compensation Report

The Executive Board compensation system is a key element in the alignment of the group and plays a major role in promoting business strategy, enhancing operating performance and thus securing the long-term success of the group.

Our goal is to support successful and sustainable corporate management by tying the compensation of Executive Board members to both the short-term and long-term performance of the company. At the same time the selection of suitable performance criteria creates incentives for implementing the strategic realignment of the group.
