Uhde wins another contract for a fertiliser complex in Egypt
The Suez-based Egyptian company Misr Oil Processing Company (MOPCO) has awarded Uhde Dortmund, Germany, a contract to construct a turnkey fertiliser complex. It is now the fourth contract for almost identical fertiliser plants to be won by Uhde in Egypt within the past two years.
"The new contract demonstrates once again the immense trust of the Egyptian fertiliser industry in Uhde's technological capabilities and the excellent partnership between Uhde and our Egyptian customers. The continuation of this partnership is a further indication that we are among the world's leaders in the design and construction of large fertiliser complexes," said Klaus Schneiders, Chairman of Uhde's Executive Board.
As in the previous cases, this contract is also for an ammonia/urea complex with a capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day of ammonia and 1,925 tonnes per day of urea granules, and includes all utilities and offsites. Uhde's scope of supplies will include the entire engineering (basic and detail), supply of the equipment, construction and commissioning. The complex will be located in the Damietta free trade zone, some 200 kilometres east of Alexandria, and is due to start production mid 2008.
The ammonia plant will be based on Uhde's proprietary ammonia process while the urea plant will use Netherlands-based Stamicarbon's synthesis technology. The licence for the urea granulation process was awarded for the first time by Uhde Fertilizer Technology of the Netherlands, who acquired the exclusive licence rights for the fluid-bed technology from Yara Fertilizer Technology with effect August 31, 2005. All selected processes are particularly environment-friendly and comply with the stringent Egyptian and European standards. The catalysts for the ammonia plant will be supplied by Uhde's renowned ammonia catalyst partner Johnson Matthey Catalysts of
the UK.
MOPCO will use the urea fertiliser produced to serve both the domestic and export markets. In order to support the Egyptian economy, an increased number of supplies and engineering services will be rendered by local companies. Procurement and project execution services will be rendered by our subsidiary Uhde Engineering Egypt in Cairo.
