Uhde to modernise and increase the capacities of fertiliser plants in Qatar
For many years, Uhde GmbH has been a successful contractor for the construction of large-scale fertiliser plants on behalf of Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO). After the successful commissioning of a large fertiliser complex in 1997, Uhde engineers are currently working on another major fertiliser complex, QAFCO 4, worth US$ 420 million and located in the same industrial region of Mesaieed, about 40 km south of Doha, the capital of Qatar.
The same customer has now awarded Uhde two further contracts: ammonia/urea plants 1 and 2, which were not constructed by Uhde and which went on stream 23 and 30 years ago, are to be equipped with a new high-voltage supply station for power generation and distribution, thus making for safe and steady-state operation and excellent dependability of the plants.
For the fertiliser complex (QAFCO 3) completed in 1997, Uhde was awarded the basic engineering contract to increase the capacity of the ammonia plant from 1,500 to 1,900 tpd and that of the urea plant from 2,200 to 3,000 tpd.
The overall scope of engineering work to be performed for the said contracts totals about 20 million euros.
Uhde is a company in the Technologies segment of the ThyssenKrupp Group and has a workforce of 3,500 employees worldwide. The company`s activities focus on the design and construction of chemical and other industrial plants in the following fields: fertilisers, organic chemicals and plastics, electrolysis, oil, gas, refining and pharmaceuticals.
