Uhde GmbH of Dortmund, Germany, has been awarded a contract by PetroChina Company Ltd. in Beijing to design a 300,000 tonne-per-year polyethylene plant (HDPE). The contract includes the licence, basic engineering, supply of critical equipment and also providing training and commissioning support to the customer`s personnel.

The plant will be built at PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Company`s site in Jilin, some 1,100 kilometres north-east of Beijing, and is due to come onstream in late 2005.

Based on Basell`s Hostalen® process, it will produce bimodal HDPE, i.e. a wide range of advanced polymer resins with exceptional mechanical properties, which can be efficiently processed into pipes, film, and large and small blow mouldings. It is the first time that this highly-developed Basell bimodal Hostalen® technology will be used in China.

After completion of the basic engineering for the world`s biggest vinyl chloride plant in China last year, this new contract marks another success for Uhde in this country.

Uhde has had a representative office in Beijing since 1980 and is currently establishing a subsidiary in Shanghai to consolidate its activities in China.
