Turkey: Krupp Uhde combines plant revamp with relief for the environment
Krupp Uhde has received from PETROKIMYA HOLDING A.S. (PETKIM), of Aliaga/Izmir, Turkey, a contract for the modernization of a vinyl chloride plant and expansion of the plant capacity by 25 % to an annual 152,000 tonnes of vinyl chloride monomer. The present plant, which applied the Solvay process, has been converted to tried and proven Vinnolit technology and expanded.
In addition, a new waste-gas collecting system and a combustion facility are to be added for valorization of the waste-gases and liquid byproducts and their conversion to high-concentration hydrochloric acid. These modifications will make a significant contribution to easing the environmental burden in the region.
Krupp Uhde's responsibilities on this project cover the complete engineering, procurement of all equipment, and commissioning of the plant.
The modernization contract has a total value of around DM 36 million.
The decisive element in the award of the contract was Krupp Uhde's proven capability in this field and the fact that the Dortmund engineering concern had successfully completed an oxychlorination plant according to the Vinnolit process a year earlier.
Krupp Uhde is a company of the Engineering segment of the Thyssen Krupp Group and has a workforce of 3,500 employees worldwide. The company's activities concentrate on the design and construction of chemical and other industrial plants in the following fields: fertilisers, organic chemicals and plastics, electrolysis processes, oil & gas and energy technology.
