The Triaton GmbH, Krefeld, integrated the SAP R/3 business system with the Botec and Qualifax IT-systems for the brewery Paulaner Brauerei GmbH & Co. KG, Munich. Botec is used to control bottling plants and Qualifax serves to capture industrial data and manage laboratory information. Now all data is available on an up-to-date basis across system boundaries. Thus Paulaner has gained additional transparency and improved control possibilities along the entire process chain: from requirements planning, to production, up to sales processing. In addition, Triaton is supporting all SAP applications for around 400 users as well as managing the interfaces.

Optimized production planning and control

With an output of 2.7 million hectoliters of beer in the year 2001, Paulaner is one of Germany`s largest brewery groups. 16 different kinds of beer are brewed at the production sites in Munich and Rosenheim. To automate production planning and control yet further, Paulaner introduced the SAP module PP-PI as of January 1, 2002 and the module SD as of April 1, 2002. Parallel, Triaton, a leading international IT service provider, programmed interfaces for the exchange of data between the systems. Peter Höhlein, head of IT at Paulaner, regarding the integration project: "Up until now, we were using three IT systems - each was doing a good job, but they were not linked with one another. The result was a lack of transparency and unexploited rationalization potentials. We are now in a position to exhaust these completely: All movements of goods are registered on an up-to-date basis. This enables optimal daily sales and production planning as well as systematic inventory management. Processes such as the handling of free samples and stored product have been simplified, order processing for inland and abroad standardized and reorganized to be much more efficient."

Integration promotes thinking in terms of processes

Integration of the systems has also made the decentralized handling of business processes possible. In the course of quality control, for example, employees in production can now directly release materials master data to which they previously had no access. Besides cost and time advantages, IT head Peter Höhlein is particularly pleased with the way the employees now see themselves: "Like many companies, to a great extent we thought in terms of departments and functions. Eliminating system boundaries was an important step towards thinking in terms of processes across the company."
