Triaton performs Windows 2000 changeover at Ruhrgas
As part of a Windows 2000 rollout project at Ruhrgas AG, Germany`s leading gas supplier, Triaton, a full-service IT provider belonging to ThyssenKrupp Serv AG, has migrated the company`s entire server system landscape throughout Germany to Windows 2000. In an initial design and test phase the existing server systems were analyzed, Ruhrgas`s aims for the new system landscape were defined, and various alternative solutions were discussed and verified. The servers at the company`s head office and subsequently at 35 other sites were then upgraded from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000. The introduction of Windows 2000 was accompanied by the introduction of an Active Directory service and the setting up of cluster systems in the areas of file services, print services, databases and exchange. In parallel with the server upgrade, the clients were also changed to Windows 2000.
Ruhrgas chose to work with a competent IT service provider because the project requirements went beyond the resources of its in-house IT department. In addition, the timetable for the upgrade was very tight, to allow the company to utilize the advantages of Windows 2000 as quickly as possible. According to Bernd Klementz, Ruhrgas project manager, these lie above all in the provision of a modern platform to support current and future technologies.
