ThyssenKrupp steel service centers: partnering the commercial vehicle industry
ThyssenKrupp Stahl-Service-Center GmbH is presenting its services for the commercial vehicle industry at booth B05 in hall 17. The company, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, supplies materials to truck and trailer manufacturers and their suppliers for axles, frames, cabs, cargo containers and other stamped and drawn parts. Demand is strongest for hot-rolled products, with interest in high-strength and ultrahigh-strength grades on the increase. There is also a growing need for competent advice on material selection and processing issues. The ThyssenKrupp steel service centers enter into long-term partnerships with customers, as exemplified by the collaboration with DAF Trucks N.V.
DAF is the number one importer of trucks to Germany and last year produced 52,500 vehicles. In the heavy-duty category (15 tons gross vehicle weight and over), the Dutch truck manufacturer ranks number 3 in Germany. The ThyssenKrupp steel service center in Bochum supplies DAF with hot-rolled, cold-rolled, hot-dip aluminized and hot-dip galvanized sheet as well as stainless steel materials. These are processed into roof and rear wall panels, other cab interior parts as well as fuel tanks and exhaust system covers.
For its XF and CF model series, DAF switched to material from the ThyssenKrupp steel service center in mid-production and was given extensive support: for example, important questions relating to forming the new materials for cab rear wall and side panels were clarified on site with assistance from the Sales/Engineering department of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG's Auto division. The department has a mobile measuring unit which allows forming processes to be analyzed directly at the stamping plant. Among other things, this helps identify excessive material elongation and thinning at an early stage, allowing the forming process to be adapted or a different material used.
The product range of the steel service centers takes in hot- and cold-rolled materials, metallic and organic coated steels, tinmill products and stainless steel. Slit strip is produced in thicknesses from 0.25 to 16.0 millimeters in a variety of widths and grades. Also included in the range are high-strength steels with strengths of up to 1,400 Newtons per square millimeter. Rectangular, diamond-shaped, triangular and trapezoidal blanks are produced in thicknesses of 0.3 to 4.0 millimeters, widths of 200 to 2,000 millimeters and lengths up to 6,000 millimeters.
