ThyssenKrupp Steel illustrated book "Discover Steel #1" wins three awards
"Discover Steel #1", an illustrated book published by ThyssenKrupp Steel in December 2004 presenting images of the steel city Duisburg over the four seasons captured by four renowned photographers, has won three leading design awards.
The first was from the German media association Forum corporate publishing e.v., which honored "Discover Steel #1" with the "BCP Best of Corporate Publishing" Gold Award in the category "Innovations" and the "Best of Corporate Publishing" Silver Award in the category "Special Corporate Books". As part of the BCP Best of Corporate Publishing Awards, a total of 537 works were assessed.
The book also received the "red dot: best of the best" award of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen. In 2005, 3,094 entries were received from 26 countries. Of these, a total of 225 works won awards. The design award "red dot: best of the best" was presented a total of 25 times.
Finally, "Discover Steel #1" was entered in the 2005 typography and design competition of the Type Directors Club of New York. As one of the works proposed for an award, the book won the "Judges Choice Award" and a "Certificate of Typographic Excellence". Since the first competition in 1955, the TDC awards have developed into the most important international competition for type and design, regularly attracting some 2,500 entries from 25 to 30 countries. The "Award for typographic excellence" is seen as an Oscar for typography, as well as being a career springboard and an important factor in creative rankings.
