ThyssenKrupp runners win corporate team competition at the Rhine-Ruhr marathon
A total of 5,892 runners were under starter?s orders for the marathon, half marathon and inline marathon at the 22nd Rhine-Ruhr marathon on June 5 in Duisburg. This again exceeded the record participation levels set in the previous year. ThyssenKrupp is traditionally the main sponsor of the event.
With around 250 entrants in the marathon, half marathon and inline marathon, the number of ThyssenKrupp employees participating in the ?samba marathon? once again matched last year?s record level. The fastest ThyssenKrupp marathon runner was Robert Schulz (ThyssenKrupp Umformtechnik), followed by his twin brother Konrad Schulz (ThyssenKrupp Umformtechnik) and Stefan Pulgar (Rasselstein GmbH). In the overall classification, they finished 6th, 7th and 9th and thus won the corporate team competition. It was particularly encouraging that, as a result of the large numbers of well-placed runners, teams from ThyssenKrupp also took second and third place in the corporate team rankings.
A highlight of this year?s event was arriving in the renovated Duisburg-Wedau stadium for the finish. In spite of the cool but, happily for the runners, dry weather, numerous spectators gathered in the MSV Arena to support and cheer on the arriving athletes. The happy finishers all agreed that this year?s marathon was a successful event.
