ThyssenKrupp opens its doors to the world's youth
At EXPO 2000, being held in Hanover from June 1 to October 31, ThyssenKrupp, one of the sponsors of the Youth Infotainment Forum (YIF), will be opening its pavilion to young people from all over the world.
As the official international center for young people at EXPO, the ThyssenKrupp Youth Infotainment Forum will give visitors aged between 12 and 28 the chance to find out what's going on at the world exhibition. To help them there will be a large Internet café, an information desk, a touch-screen area as well as special chat forums. In another area screens will be set up on which visitors can take a virtual tour of EXPO. A "wishing wall" will be available on which young people can express their dreams, hopes and ideas. At the end of EXPO the "wishes" will be assessed and published.
By sponsoring the YIF, ThyssenKrupp also aims to support young people thinking about their careers in today's difficult job market environment. Young people looking for training and job opportunities can go to the ThyssenKrupp Youth Infotainment Forum for relevant addresses and information on training schemes, apprenticeships, internships in Germany and other countries and on international school projects. YIF visitors will be looked after by apprentices and employees from all areas of the ThyssenKrupp Group. In addition, visitors will be able to talk to experts involved in various projects, such as EUROGATE (a special initiative of the German federal ministry for employment and social policy), Förderverein Europa-Schulen in Essen e.V. (association promoting European schools, supported by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation), Patenschaft für Lehrstellen e.V. (apprenticeship support group) and EXPO 2000.... macht Schule! (an EXPO GmbH project). There are also plans to invite speakers from the spheres of politics, industry and the arts to contribute to seminars, workshops and panel discussions.
At the first world expo to be staged in Germany, the ThyssenKrupp Group will also be active as a limited partner in the EXPO-Beteiligungsgesellschaften der Deutschen Wirtschaft mbH & Co. KG and as a co-sponsor of the Christian pavilion, an ecumenical project involving the evangelical and catholic churches. Built with steel products donated by ThyssenKrupp Stahl, the pavilion itself will be 14 meters high and 64 meters wide and will be constructed entirely of glass and steel. With the aid of a special technique, the church area and cloister will be dismantled after EXPO 2000 and rebuilt in two distant locations.
ThyssenKrupp has invested tens of millions of marks in the Youth Infotainment Forum at EXPO 2000.
Anyone not wishing to wait until the opening of EXPO can find out more about the ThyssenKrupp Youth Infotainment Forum in the Internet on www.yif.de.
