ThyssenKrupp Nirosta receives contract for new airport in Qatari capital Doha
The airport in Qatar is the main hub for Qatar Airways, one of the fastest-growing international airlines which has already been voted “best airline in the Middle East” on several occasions. The New Doha International Airport will be one of the first in the world designed specially to handle modern super-jumbo aircraft like the Airbus A 380, for which an extra-long 4,850 meter runway is planned. The small desert state on the east coast of the Arabian peninsula is investing around 14 billion US dollars in the new airport.
Following the recently opened Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building, Doha airport is a further showcase project for ThyssenKrupp Nirosta in the Middle East. “Our material copes particularly well with the climate conditions in this region,” says Gert Weiß, head of product service at ThyssenKrupp Nirosta. Produced at the company’s Krefeld and Dillenburg plants, the Nirosta 4404 stainless steel will be supplied in a thickness of 2 millimeters with the “linen” and new “microlinen” finishes.
