ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems to build SWATH-Revenue Cutters
Emden based Nordseewerke - a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems - has won the contract to build two revenue cutters for the Procurement Agency of the German Federal Customs Administration. The first boat is scheduled for delivery in November 2008, the second one in June 2009.
The boats will be built according to the SWATH-principle. SWATH stands for "Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull", this means a twin hull vessel with a very small displacement area on the waterline. Owing to this small waterline, area the ship is hardly affected by seaway. As a result, vessels built in SWATH technology have an extremely good sea-keeping behaviour - even in case of heavy seaway.
The German Federal Customs Administration has chosen this vessel in order to ensure an optimum realization of its sovereign tasks - together with other authorities.
For the Emden-based shipyard this commission means the consistent continuation of the SWATH family, begun with the SWATH-research vessel PLANET. The new project now takes advantage of all the experiences gained with this ship.
The boats will be built according to German Lloyd regulations and have the following main features:
・ Overall length: approx. 49 m
・ Moulded breadth: 19 m
・ Moulded depth: 9 m
・ Displacement: <1000 tons
・ Propulsion (diesel-electrical): 4 x 2080 kW (mech.)
