ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems at the European Shipyard Week 2008
It’s number one in Europe and in fourth place world-wide: The German shipbuilding industry is among the front runners when it comes to production in ship and marine technology. To maintain the leading position among the high-tech ship types, the shipyards in the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems group also continuously need highly qualified new talent. Well-trained engineers and specialized workers are particularly in demand.
To get students excited about a professional career in the maritime economy, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems is participating in the European Shipbuilding Week 2008. This initiative by the German Shipbuilding and Oceans Industries Association (VSM) is carried out in cooperation with the Society for Maritime Technology, IG Metall Bezirk Küste (Trade Union), and Nordmetall.
Events at the sites in Kiel, Hamburg and Emden show the training and work environment “from the inside”. Blohm + Voss in Hamburg, together with the TU Hamburg-Harburg and Germanischer Lloyd, will provide information about study, work and training possibilities and give a tour of the shipyard in Hamburg on Wednesday, April 9. Emder Nordseewerke will also offer a guided tour of the shipyard on Thursday, April 10, in addition to a company presentation for the local high schools. At the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft shipyard in Kiel, a joint program with the Technical College of Kiel will take place on Thursday, April 10, and Friday, April 11. In addition to a company presentation and a guided tour of the shipyard, this includes an exchange with representatives of the specialized divisions and (former) students, an introduction to the study of naval architecture, and trial lectures.
