ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik supplies equipment for oil sands project in Canada
ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik, a company of ThyssenKrupp Technologies, has reached an agreement with Canadian Natural Resources Limited ("Canadian Natural") on an EPC for Phase 1 of Canadian Natural`s Horizon Oil Sands Project.
The EPC is for the Ore Preparation Plants and the scope of work involves the engineering, manufacture and installation of the crushing plants, surge facility, conveyors and slurry preparation plants for two production lines. The ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik supplied system will receive mined ore delivered to the crushing plants by large haul trucks and, through a system of crushing, conveying, mixing, screening and pumping, will deliver a wet slurry mixture of bitumen, sand and water to Canadian Natural`s hydro-transport system where it will be delivered to the on-site Bitumen Extraction Plant. The ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik system is rated at 6,000 tonnes per hour per production line for a total capacity of 12,000 tonne per hour.
The Horizon Project is located on oil sands leases in the Ft. McMurray region of Alberta and is 100% owned and operated by Canadian Natural Resources Limited ("Canadian Natural"); a senior oil and natural gas production company with operations in Western Canada, the U.K. portion of the North Sea and Offshore West Africa.
These oil sands leases are estimated by Canadian Natural to contain approximately 6 billion barrels of bitumen recoverable through open pit mining operations. The Horizon Project is designed as a phased development and includes the open pit mining of bitumen combined with an on-site upgrader.
Phase 1 production is planned to begin in the second half of 2008 at 110,000 bbl/d of 34° API light, sweet synthetic crude oil ("SCO"). Phase 2 would increase production to 155,000 bbl/d of SCO in 2010. Phase 3 would further increase production to 232,000 bbl/d of SCO in 2012.
