The employees of ThyssenKrupp AG and the Group itself have donated around 200,000 euros for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The employee appeal was launched on November 18, 2013 at the initiative of ThyssenKrupp AG, which donated 50,000 euros itself. The total of just under 200,000 euros was given to children’s charity Kindernothilfe e.V. “I am proud of the generosity shown by our employees in this appeal. We hope that our donation will help lessen the suffering,” said Oliver Burkhard, Chief Human Resources Officer at ThyssenKrupp AG.

The money is mainly being used to support children, pregnant women and mothers. For example, initial medical care has been provided at five mother-child centers. Food and supplements have been distributed to combat acute malnutrition and access secured to clean water and sanitary facilities. In addition, specially trained helpers have provided group and one-to-one therapy to mothers and children affected by the terrible events.

Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines on November 8, 2013, was one of the most powerful typhoons ever recorded, destroying up to 80 percent of the country’s infrastructure.
