ThyssenKrupp Elevator moves into former bullring
The former “Las Arenas” bullring in Barcelona, one of the landmarks of the city, is currently being converted into a shopping and leisure center. The ambitious construction project, which will retain the historic facade of the 19th century arena, will create an area of around 100,000 square meters for shopping, sport and entertainment. 38 ThyssenKrupp Elevator installations will take care of transportation in the building with its unique architecture.
25 escalators and 13 elevators from ThyssenKrupp Elevator will be fitted in the arena designed by British architect Lord Richard Rogers. One highlight will be six panoramic elevators installed both inside the building and on the outer facade.
A huge, virtually transparent dome will cover the entire arena in which the likes of El Cordobés and Dominguín once stood face to face with the bulls. When complete, the new shopping and leisure center, with a public square at ground level, will be linked via footpaths to the nearby Joan Miró Park and the Montjuic district, where several museums and the Olympic stadium are located.
Further ThyssenKrupp Elevator reference projects in Barcelona include the airport, the metro network, the Liceo opera house and renowned hotels such as the “Arts”, the “Juan Carlos I” and the “OMM”.
