ThyssenKrupp Elevator in the US wins contract at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
Highly advanced conveyance systems install in massive terminal project
ThyssenKrupp Elevator in the US has been sub-contracted to supply and install all passenger conveyance systems for the high-tech international terminal now under construction at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2005, the two million square-foot "Crown Jewel" of DFW`s Capital Development Program will contain 189 conveyance units, including 54 hydraulic elevators, 34 geared traction elevators, 59 escalators, 34 moving walks, and four material lifts. Terminal D, as the complex will be known, will provide service to 37,000 passengers daily, and passenger conveyance is important for both overall efficiency and passenger safety.
General Contractor Austin Commercial, Inc. recommended acceptance of ThyssenKrupp Elevators`s quality emphasized bid. "We are convinced that ThyssenKrupp Elevator can supply the kinds of technologically advanced conveyance systems that are integral to the design of this technologically advanced complex," said Kevan Moize of Austin Commercial. "They demonstrated that their products could fully meet the demands of a very large and complicated facility, and we trust their personnel."
The Terminal D complex will include the seven level terminal itself, an 8-story Grand Hyatt Hotel, an elevated sky bridge connecting the new terminal to existing Terminal C, and an eight- story-parking garage with 8,100 spaces. The parking garage will incorporate enclosed passenger halls with moving walkways and elevators.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator will supply a variety of advanced and sometimes unusual conveyance systems. Items include very long moving walks of up to 300 feet, as well as escalators with vertical rises of up to 47 feet, which is exceptionally high. Elevator capacities will range from 3,500 lbs. to 12,000 lbs.
Said Mark Schroeder of ThyssenKrupp Elevator`s team DFW: "This project not only required a lot of state-of-the-art equipment, but also the ability to monitor all these conveyance units from one central location. We were able to show the general contractor how our systems could do the job."
ThyssenKrupp Elevator is North America`s market leader in elevator sales and service.
