ThyssenKrupp Award for outstanding achievement in an intermediate diploma
ThyssenKrupp AG has had close ties with various German colleges/universities for many years. The aim of cooperation agreements signed at the beginning of 2003 is to establish particularly close partnerships with several selected universities. These include Aachen University of Technology, Berlin Technical University, Ruhr University Bochum, the University of Dortmund, Dresden Technical University and Hamburg-Harburg Technical University. ThyssenKrupp Stahl has a similar cooperation with Freiberg Technical University.
The cooperation between Aachen University of Technology and ThyssenKrupp AG aims to support eligible students of computer science, mechanical engineering, metallurgy and materials science, economics and structural steel engineering by providing ThyssenKrupp Study Support Program scholarships. The Group has also presented the first ThyssenKrupp Award for outstanding examination achievement at intermediate diploma level.
Top-class academic achievement is a prerequisite for the award, but so-called "soft skills" are also taken into account. The ThyssenKrupp Award will be presented annually from now on. It involves a support payment of 500 euros per semester and support from a ThyssenKrupp mentor for the winner for the duration of the regular study period (a maximum of six semesters).
This year`s award goes to two winners.
Matthias Thewes comes from Haan near Düsseldorf and is 23 years old. He is studying mechanical engineering, was sponsored by the German National Academic Foundation and passed his intermediate diploma in October 2003 with a grade of 1.4.
