ThyssenKrupp Automotive expands electronics and engineering capabilities
Thyssen Krupp Automotive AG, Bochum, (TKA) is continuously expanding its activities in electronics and engineering. By establishing ThyssenKrupp Automotive Mechatronics GmbH and by working together closely with the engineering office p.a.d., TKA is strengthening its position in the systems and modules business.
ThyssenKrupp Automotive Mechatronics GmbH (TKAM) was founded today. The joint venture between Krupp Automotive Systems GmbH, Bochum, (51%) and Thyssen Transrapid Systems GmbH, Kassel, (49%) expands TKA?s expertise in the development and production of mecha-tronic assemblies for active suspension systems and steering systems. TKAM is based in Munich and currently has over 60 employees at sites in Munich and Kassel. Various joint projects in the past have shown that a technology transfer between Transrapid and Automotive activities promotes the development of innovative products in TKA projects.
Another successful step in the expansion of TKA?s engineering capabilities is the company?s close collaboration with p.a.d. Karosserietechnik GmbH, Neckarsulm. p.a.d. has around 200 employees at seven locations (Germany: Böblingen, Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm, Stadthagen, Winterberg; Spain: Sabadell; USA: Charlotte, North Carolina). The engineering office is active in body, interior and engine development, tooling and fixtures and electrical and electronic assemblies.
Beneficiaries of the collaboration with p.a.d. are Krupp Drauz GmbH, Heilbronn, and above all Krupp Automotive Systems GmbH. It enables TKA?s systems specialist to further expand its own engineering and service capabilities. In addition, Krupp Drauz GmbH will be able to include design in its range of body-related services, making Krupp Drauz a full-service supplier for systems technology.
Both companies, Krupp Automotive Systems and Krupp Drauz, are part of the Systems/Suspensions business unit of ThyssenKrupp Automotive. ThyssenKrupp Automotive is one of the world?s biggest automotive suppliers with sales of around 6 billion Euro, 118 production sites and around 40,000 employees.
