ThyssenKrupp Airport Systems on growth track
ThyssenKrupp Airport Systems S.A., Mieres (Spain), a subsidiary of the ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, Düsseldorf, has reached an agreement to acquire the airport passenger boarding bridge operations of TEAM (Technologia Europea Aplicada al Movimiento) S.L. and TRABOSA S.L.. Both sister companies are located in Barcelona, Spain. TEAM is in charge of the new installations business, TRABOSA handles the equipment service. In 2005 TEAM/TRABOSA had 200 employees and generated sales of some 15 million euros. This acquisition represents a continuation of market leader ThyssenKrupp Airport Systems' growth strategy in the airport industry.
TEAM/TRABOSA hold strong positions in the European and South American markets as well as in North Africa. This acquisition strengthens ThyssenKrupp's service base at airports in Spain, Italy, UK, France and Portugal. TEAM will focus in the future on its shiploader solutions and transportation equipment business.
ThyssenKrupp Airport Systems recently completed major airport projects in Madrid, Toronto and Dallas/Fort Worth. Currently the group is working on outstanding airport projects in Dubai, Beijing, Shanghai-Pudong, Warsaw, Ankara, Cairo, Paris and London Heathrow. Professional cross-selling laid the foundation for these major airport projects. The company is the first supplier in the world to manufacture and install passenger boarding bridges for the new Airbus A380. The order in Dubai includes 127 passenger boarding bridges, 25 of them for the Airbus A380.
A new transportation concept - the TurboTrack - will be installed at Pearson Airport in Toronto. This moving walk will accelerate up to a speed of two meters per second over a distance of 270 meters, transporting more than 14,000 people per hour.
