Thyssen Bausysteme penetrates new markets
First major order from the USA
Thyssen Bausysteme GmbH is moving into new markets. At the beginning of the year the company began shipping THYSSEN-thermowand® design elements for the Philadelphia International Airport. Based in Dinslaken, Germany, the company will deliver a total of 35,000 square meters of sandwich elements for a new terminal at the airport. The panels will be used to build the entire external facade and the lower roof structure of the covered entrance. The project is the first major order Thyssen Bausysteme GmbH has received from the USA.
The new terminal in Philadelphia will handle international flights and is scheduled for completion in spring 2002. Covering an area of more than 250,000 square meters, the terminal will have twelve gates and cost some 325 million dollars to build.
THYSSEN-thermowand® design elements are sandwich construction elements with concealed fastenings which are available in wide span formats and offer outstanding thermal insulation and long service life. The elements are made of THYSSEN-Color and rigid polyurethane (PUR) foam. Thyssen-Color is a weather-proof composite material of cold-rolled two-side galvanized steel with a plastic coating. Various coating qualities are available to suit different environmental conditions and application requirements. The PUR foam is CFC and HCFC-free. For the Philadelphia International Airport Thyssen Bausysteme is supplying metallic silver THYSSEN-thermowand® design elements 852.4 millimeters wide. With a view to further expansion in the USA, Thyssen Bausysteme GmbH has set up joint sales activities with local partners.
As well as helping build airports in the USA, Thyssen Bausysteme is also at work in Germany`s shipyards. 180,000 square meters of THYSSEN-Wand and THYSSEN-Dach construction elements are currently being supplied to the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, where a new dry dock is being built for large cruise liners. The building will be 350 meters long, 100 meters wide and 100 meters tall.
