The tandem mill damaged by fire on November 26, 2003 at the Dortmund cold rolling facility commenced cold trials on December 31, 2003. Since January 7, 2003, the mill has been back in production on a ramp-up curve. Product quality is at the customary level. Our objective is to bring the mill back to full capacity in the next two months. However, this will necessitate further technical optimization.

Thanks to the great efforts of our own employees from all departments and of the outside contractors involved in the rebuild, it was possible to restart operation surprisingly quickly. The combined pickling line/tandem mill in Dortmund is ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG`s most powerful cold rolling mill with a capacity of 2.3 million metric tons. It primarily serves customers in the automotive sector.
