Successful environmental certification
“This represents a sustainable commitment to our environment,” said Dr. Gerd Gränzdörffer, responsible for quality and environmental management at ThyssenKrupp Stahl-Service-Center. “Certification requires us to undergo regular internal and external audits to assess whether we are meeting the requirements of this standard.” A prerequisite for certification was the implementation of an appropriate environmental management system at ThyssenKrupp Stahl-Service-Center. Gränzdörffer explained: “It sets out what we have to do to meet all the environmental requirements placed on our company. For this, our management has adopted an environmental policy that sets concrete targets each year.”
As a result, checks are now carried out on all production processes to ensure they are eco-friendly and identify potential for improvement. Required resources are systematically recorded, and waste materials are separated and properly disposed of. “We have appointed responsible officers who receive regular environmental training.” The company keeps its own register of environmental legislation applying to production operations, which it checks every year to ensure it is up to date. “This enables us to respond quickly to changes and take the necessary measures.” Last but not least, service providers and suppliers are also required to comply with these environmental standards.
