Strip with ideas
ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Präzisionsband GmbH is located in Dahlerbrück. The ThyssenKrupp Nirosta subsidiary makes Nirosta precision strip, a product which stands for maximum reliability. And not without reason: extremely close tolerances, exact dimensions and precise strengths make it the ideal starting material for a wide range of sectors and applications (medical, automotive, mechanical engineering, toolmaking, chemicals, environmental technology, energy, construction, household, electronics, telecommunications and consumer goods).
This "classic" material can now be supplied in a new form: multiring. Individual coils are laid on pallets and neatly welded at the ends in a special process, creating a jumbo coil with a maximum weight of three metric tons.
The advantages: Machine capacities are usually so stretched that a further increase in production is only possible with additional equipment. In such instances, endless strip offers decisive advantages: only the leading end of the top ring needs to be threaded into the machine. The stack then unwinds automatically from top to bottom. This means the machine only needs to be set up once. The rings are pre-sorted accordingly and run smoothly through the machine. This reduces downtimes and increases machine efficiency. Compared to individual coils, machine uptimes can increase tenfold. Operators can concentrate on checking and monitoring. In this way, users gain additional productivity without capital expenditure. Specific material throughput rises by around 10%. The welds are of consistently high quality and can handle most forming operations, even on automatic presses.
"We are evolving more and more from a product supplier into an ideas provider", says Mathias Bärwolf, Managing Director of the successful Sauerland company, "our new system shows that. Technically speaking it is possible to use endless strip on all existing lines, but we are happy to supply a service engineer to support introduction if required."
ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Präzisionsband GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Nirosta GmbH and part of ThyssenKrupp Stainless AG. The company employs around 250 people and reported sales of around 88 million euros in fiscal 2004/2005.
