Stainless steel producer offers 20 new vocational internships
ThyssenKrupp Nirosta is today celebrating its tenth anniversary in the Essen Philharmonie, and to mark the occasion it has come up with a special gift for young people: the company is offering 20 new vocational internships ? 15 in Krefeld, three in Benrath and two in Dillenburg.
The so-called EQJ program, which provides initial vocational training for young people, is part of the training pact concluded between the German government and German industry and is aimed at young persons who have been looking for an apprenticeship for over a year but have not been offered a place before October 1. The one-year internship is one of the few opportunities they have of escaping the dilemma of unemployment and increasing demotivation.
?We have a dedicated trainer whose sole job is to look after and support the interns,? says HR director Klaus-Peter Hennig. ?We are facing up to our sociopolitical responsibilities by providing perspectives for 20 young people in addition to the 80 new apprenticeship places we will anyway be filling in September.? ThyssenKrupp Nirosta already took on 15 interns for a year under the EQJ program twelve months ago, and it proved well worthwhile: seven of them will now be given apprenticeship contracts and thus the opportunity to receive qualified vocational training.
ThyssenKrupp Nirosta GmbH in its current form is the result of the merger between Krupp Nirosta and Thyssen Stahl Rostfrei in 1995, exactly 10 years ago. With more than 4,200 employees and sales in fiscal 2003/2004 of around 2.2 billion euros, the company is one of the world?s leading stainless steel producers. Its German plants in Krefeld, Benrath, Dillenburg and Bochum have an annual output in excess of 1.1 million metric tons. The Nirosta group also includes three service centers specialized in high-quality stainless steel processing.
Stainless steel is used in household, automotive, architectural, food, medical and environmental applications. The material stands out not only for its technical properties, such as corrosion resistance, but also for its attractive appearance. Its durability and recyclability make a major contribution toward protecting the environment.
