Price increase for carbon steel flat products
ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG is to raise its prices for hot strip, sheet and coated products by 20 euros/t for deliveries from January 1, 2004. This price step is needed urgently to counter increasing cost pressure. Procurement prices for ore and blast furnace coke increased significantly in 2003, coupled with a massive rise in sea freight rates. This was only partly cushioned by the shift in the euro/US dollar exchange rate. Scrap and energy prices have increased considerably. Additional increases on the raw materials side are also expected in 2004. The latest collective bargaining agreement will also increase personnel costs.
Commenting on the move, ThyssenKrupp Stahl Executive Board Member Dr. Jost A. Massenberg said: "We intend to offset at least part of the cost burden with the planned price increase. Acceptability on the market will be supported by the emerging recovery in steel demand."
