Premier Wulff and ThyssenKrupp CEO Schulz open "deas Park 2006" in Hanover
Premier of Lower Saxony Christian Wulff, ThyssenKrupp Executive Board Chairman Ekkehard Schulz and Mayor of Hanover Herbert Schmalstieg opened the "Ideas Park 2006" at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2006 on Expo Plaza at the Hanover exhibition site. They then took a tour of the Ideas Park.
Under the heading "Discover technology. Shape the future", from May 20 to 28, 2006 ThyssenKrupp together with the state of Lower Saxony and more than 50 partners will be showing how innovations are created at the Expo site in Hanover. More than 150 exhibits from the areas of "Mobility", "Life and environment" and "Creativity" will provide a fun insight into the world of innovation. The technology experience is rounded off by an open-air stage with daily science shows, theater presentations and attractions for visitors young and old. Admission is free.
"Mobility and technology are key areas in Lower Saxony," said Wulff during the opening ceremony. "We build the best cars, the most advanced ships and the biggest aircraft in the world. Technical innovations are important to securing our future. Many new technical developments originated in Lower Saxony. And every day, companies and research institutes here are coming up with new ideas, products and technologies which have the potential to make a lasting change to our future. My aim is to spread Lower Saxony's reputation as an innovative region providing impetus both in Germany and worldwide. That's why it's good that with the "Ideas Park 2006" in Hanover, ThyssenKrupp is offering a technology experience for all the family."
Ekkehard Schulz, Executive Board Chairman of ThyssenKrupp AG: "Together with our partners we want to turn the next few days into a festival of ideas. Everyone in Lower Saxony and its capital is invited to visit this festival and gain inspiration from it. A particular feature is the opportunity to talk to the people behind the technology. We have around 500 engineers, researchers, inventors and students who are looking forward to your visit."
Sunday, May 21, 2006 will be Lower Saxony day at the Ideas Park. During a tour from 4 p.m., Premier Wulff will be finding out about exhibits from the state. At 5 p.m., moderator Hinnerk Baumgarten from German TV station NDR will be joined by Wulff, the bishop of Lower Saxony Margot Käßmann, managing director of soccer club Hannover 96 Karl-Heinz Vehling and local entrepreneurs Angelika Reichelt and Georg Näder to discuss the question: "How is Lower Saxony getting itself fit for the future?".
