Nordseewerke hand over second 2,700 TEU container ship to shipping group Alfred Hartmann
The handing over ceremony took place on board of the COSCO Karachi today. 400 guests and employees of the shipping company and the shipyard in Emden were present. The vessel, christened Frisia Kopenhagen on April 4th, 2005, is the second 2,700 TEU container ship that has been delivered to the Alfred Hartmann shipping group in Leer.
With the 2,700 TEU container ship, Nordseewerke - ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems' competence centre for merchant shipbuilding - have developed yet another promising size of ship. 2,700 TEU equals a load capacity of 2,700 standard containers of 20" length.
The shipyard traditionally entertains a good relationship to the East Frisian shipowners in Leer, Germany's second biggest shipping company location. This fact contributed essentially to the successful marketing of the new ship class. Orders for six additional ships of the same type have been placed with the shipyard. A bigger version of this container ship type exceeding 3,000 TEU is currently being designed and will complement the product family in the near future.
After positive experiences with the first ship built in Emden - the Frisia Leipzig - the shipowner Captain Alfred Hartmann said he was very happy with the quality of these 2,700 TEU container ships. The Frisia Leipzig was handed over in December 2004.
The container ship was built according to German Lloyd regulations and features the following main technical data:
・ Overall length: 215.45 m
・ Length between perpendiculars: 205.28 m
・ Moulded breadth: 29.80 m
・ Moulded depth: 16.50 m
・ Strength draft: 11.55 m
・ Load draft: 10.10 m
・ Deadweight (SD=11.55 m): 37,950 t
・ Container capacity: 2,702 TEU
