Moscow TV tower with high tech elevator
Neuhausen a.d.F. Repairs at the Moscow TV tower are running at full speed: At the end of next year, visitors will be able to once again enjoy Moscow`s skyline from a height of 337 meters. Following the devastating fire in August 2000, the TV tower, Moscow`s landmark, will be accessible to the public. A short time ago, the Russian tower company, RTRS, has placed an order with ThyssenKrupp Aufzugswerke GmbH for the delivery of the first two elevators. The elevators for the second highest TV tower in the world require a transport height of 348 meters with a speed of seven meters per second.
"Upon the invitation from the state acquisition company, Maschinoimport, our experts arrived only a few days after the momentous fire on the location to gain an impression regarding the extent of destruction to the elevators and inside of the shaft", says Dr. Clemens Kolbe, speaker of ThyssenKrupp Aufzüge GmbH management. "The extent of the required repairs was unknown for a long time. Already in 1967, when the tower was built, we quickly delivered three fast running elevator systems (speed of seven meters per second) and a kitchen elevator. We completely updated one of these elevators in 1987. Another factor for the assignment of the order to our company was the new future oriented technology we implemented in the Hermes tower at the trade show in Hanover: This is where the first elevator with the touch free energy transmission (inductive coupling) installation runs in Europe. The exact same technology will also be implemented in Moscow", continues Kolbe.
The first delivery is already due in March of next year. An order for two more elevators is expected for this year as well.
