Modernization for National Bank of Egypt in Cairo
ThyssenKrupp Elevator has received a contract to modernize the elevators in the headquarters of the National Bank of Egypt in Cairo. The distinctive building consisting of two 37-story towers will be fitted with 20 high-speed elevators equipped with the latest destination selection control systems.
The project is part of an extensive facelift for the headquarters of the historical Egyptian bank and will allow the building’s overall height of 135 meters to be negotiated much more quickly and comfortably in the future. Traveling at four meters per second the new elevators will be among the fastest in Egypt. Waiting times will be slashed by means of a destination selection control (DSC) system. Passengers select their destination on a screen before entering the cab and the system directs them to the fastest elevator. As a result the elevator group operates more efficiently and saves energy.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator has had a subsidiary in Egypt for almost ten years, serving hotels, hospitals, office buildings and public transit systems. Major customers include the new terminal at Cairo International Airport and Sharm El Sheikh International Airport. Both use the full range of passenger transportation systems offered by the company – elevators, escalators, moving walks and passenger boarding bridges. In Cairo, ThyssenKrupp Elevator Egypt services the
156 escalators and 54 elevators of the city’s metro system.
