Launching Ceremony of a 2,700 TEU Container Ship at Nordseewerke in Emden
On April 3 at 4:00 p.m. the 2,700 TEU Containership with the yard number 555 was given the name CAP CASTILLO at Nordseewerke – a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. Godmother of the name giving ceremony in Emden, Germany was Mrs Andrea Grewe. She is the wife of Bernd Grewe, head of the department Container Tonnage of the shipping company Rudolf A. Oetker KG in Hamburg, Germany. Participants at the ceremony were representatives of the customer, the shipping company and the shipyard as well as numerous guests and visitors from Emden.
The CAP CASTILLO is the eighth and last ship of a series of 2,700 TEU container ships which is launched at Nordseewerke. This ship is the first of this series that is equipped with three 45 tons cranes to load and unload autonomously by itself. So the CAP CASTILLO can also be employed in small harbours without own crane capacities. This ship was ordered by GEBAB in Meerbusch, Germany, and the shipping company will be the MARTIME , based in Elsfleth, Germany. The charterer will be the shipping company Rudolf A. Oetker KG. The CAP CASTILLO will leave Emden on April 5 for its first loading in Bremerhaven. Then, the ship will leave for a journey to Australia via the east coast of the USA, the Panama Canal and New Zealand.
In May 2008 the first new building of Nordseewerke’s new developed successor type with a load capacity of 3,400 TEU will be launched.
