Large-scale aromatics plant successfully commissioned by Krupp Uhde for BASF Antwerp
Krupp Uhde has completed and successfully commissioned a commercial-scale aromatics plant for BASF Antwerp N.V., thus adding to its list of reference plants in this field. The plant built on a turnkey basis uses the Krupp Uhde proprietary Morphylane® process in conjunction with the BASF proprietary Selop process. Ultra-pure aromatics are recovered from pyrolysis gasoline obtained in the plant's steam cracker and these are then used for the production of styrene and polystyrene in the chemicals industry. The plant capacity is approx. 258,000 tpa benzene.
The Krupp Uhde scope of supplies for this project included the basic and detail engineering, all documents relevant to the application for the official plant operation permit, the supply of all process equipment, civil works, plant erection and commissioning. It is also particularly worthy of mention that Krupp Uhde was able to perform the "Mechanical Completion" within a very short period of 19 months and commission this plant within the contractual period of 24 months.
More than 40 plants using the Krupp Uhde Morphylane® process have already been constructed by Krupp Uhde worldwide.
