Keel-laying of the third corvette Class 130 in Emden
On Sept. 22, the keel-laying ceremony for the first component of the fore ship of the third corvette of Class 130 series will take place at ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems' Nordseewerke in Emden. The vessel will carry the name Erfurt and will be delivered to the German Navy in 2008.
The Ceremony will be attended by the German Navy, the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) and a delegation from the German city of Erfurt - conducted by mayor Dietrich Hagemann.
The third corvette will be assembled and commissioned by Nordseewerke shipyard. Harbour (HAT) and sea acceptance tests (SAT) will also take place in Emden.
The main task of the corvettes will be above-water intelligence and surface target attack. High mobility and combat strength combined with a considerably higher endurance enable this vessel to act even in remote sea areas. The Class 130 corvettes will replace the missile-carrying fast patrol boats of the Tiger and Albatross Class since these boats do not fulfil the requirements for future operational profiles.
