Hoesch Hohenlimburg extends product range
Hoesch Hohenlimburg GmbH is adding to its range of steel profiles for facade construction. As well as its proven hot-extruded and cold-drawn facade profiles, the company will also be supplying laser-welded profiles in the future. A laser welding facility for the new product line will start operation during the first quarter 2005.
Laser-welded special profiles are not only cost-efficient to produce, their sharp edges meet a central criterion of modern architecture. Their filigree appearance is due to the fact that laser welding requires no fillers and operates with narrow joint gaps. The laser beam is only a few tenths of a millimeter thick and produces a correspondingly thin weld.
Steel profiles produced in this way not only look elegant but the joint is also extremely strong due to the high power of the laser. The new facility at Hoesch Hohenlimburg has a 12 kilowatt laser that fuses the chord and web to a depth of up to twelve millimeters to provide a firm joint. This laser power also makes it possible to process larger cross sections, for example hollow profiles with dimensions up to 250 x 200 x 10 millimeters. The welding speed is approximately three meters per minute.
Hoesch Hohenlimburg will use the new laser welding facility to produce carbon and stainless steel facade profiles in shapes ranging from channels, tees and H sections to rectangular and square hollow sections. Special shapes will also be available on request. The maximum profile length will be seven meters.
