Highly precise, highly individual: new finishes from ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Präzisionsband
Precision strip, as the name says, offers above all accuracy: closest tolerances on strip thicknesses from 0.05 to 1.5 millimeters, exact dimensions on strip widths from 3 to 650 millimeters and dead-on-spec strength levels from 600 to 2,200 megapascals. Users expect a customized product they can rely on completely. But now ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Präzisionsband GmbH offers not only precision: the Dahlerbrück-based company has developed new surface finishes for precision strip that allow customers to determine exactly how their products will look - right through to rolled-in logos.
Precision stainless steel strip is utilized in the automotive, chemical, energy, electronics, telecommunications and domestic appliance sectors among others. It is used for example to make parts for clocks, components for computers and mobile phones, blinds and window elements.
In addition to the familiar cold-rolled and bright-annealed finishes, ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Präzisionsband has now added textured finishes and so-called motif finishes to its range. In the case of the motif finish, company logos or other motifs chosen by the user are rolled directly into the precision strip. The components made from the strip are given an unmistakable identity and customers have a new means of differentiating their products on the market. Precision strip with the motif finish facilitates brand maintenance and makes product piracy more difficult.
The new matt finishes give the precision strip visual depth and a better grip. In addition, unwanted dazzle is avoided. The finishes called Corob, EDT, Spezial EDT and Skin differ in terms of their depth of roughness. The Corob finish, with a fine brushed texture, has a depth of roughness of 0.3 to 0.7 micrometers, while the Skin finish, with a texture similar to leather grain, has a value between 1.0 and 2.0 micrometers.
Even with the new finishes, precision strip from Dahlerbrück has the same precisely set mechanical properties as cold-rolled or bright-annealed product. The textured finishes are created during the final cold rolling pass. As well as the embossed motif, there is also the possibility of producing logos or other patterns by using different depths of roughness to create the required image through reflection effects. In this case the surface of the strip remains flat and smooth. ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Präzisionsband GmbH offers the new finishes on all its materials, including the ultrahigh-strength grades.
