Gary Elliott turns 60
ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG Executive Board Chairman, Gary Elliott, will turn 60 on Sunday, July 11. Elliott, born in Toronto, studied technical design and business administration in Canada and gained his first work experience at the Canadian elevator manufacturer Horn/Armor Elevator while he was still studying. He worked his way up through the elevator business in the production, assembly and service departments: From technical designer to production manager and then assembly and service manager. Ultimately he was responsible for sales, service and new installations in North America.
In 1980, Elliott founded the company Northern Elevator in Toronto with a partner. The company was sold in 1987 to the then Thyssen Aufzüge GmbH in Neuhausen near Stuttgart, with Elliott remaining as Chief Executive Officer, responsible for North America and Australia.
Elliott was appointed member of the Executive Board of Thyssen Aufzüge GmbH in 1996 and settled in Germany with his family. He took over as Chairman of the Executive Board in 1997. At the same time was appointed member of the Executive Board of the then Thyssen Industrie in Essen. He was deeply involved in important acquisitions, such as Dover Elevator in the USA or Dongyang Elevator in Korea.
He has been Chairman of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG since the Elevator segment was founded in February 2001.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the third-largest elevator company in the world and has a presence in more than 60 countries at over 800 locations. With over 30,000 employees, the company achieved sales of around 3.4 billion euros in the fiscal year to September 30, 2003. Capabilities include passenger and freight elevators, escalators and moving walks, stair and platform lifts, passenger boarding bridges as well as high-quality service for the entire product range.
