Fastest elevators in Brazil set to be installed at the iconic Birmann 32 building in São Paulo
- The 7 meters per second elevators will reach the 29th floor in just 30 seconds
- The 125-meter office building will become a key icon in São Paulo
Leading mobility solutions business thyssenkrupp Elevator is set to raise the market in Brazil’s commercial building sector, announcing today it will install the fastest lifts in the country at the iconic Birmann 32 office building on Faria Lima Avenue. The elevators of the upper zone will have a speed of 7 meters per second – meaning they can travel through of the building’s 29 floors in about 30 seconds.
With urbanization creating a world of increasingly tall buildings, elevators are playing a critical role in getting people safely and efficiently from A to B. The Birmann 32 project, commissioned by Faria Lima Prime Properties (FLPP), will have eight elevators travelling at the peak speed to move people quickly and easily around the 125-meter tall venue.
Peter Walker, COO at thyssenkrupp Elevator, comments: “The Birmann 32 building is an exciting project for us to be involved in and we are pleased that our mobility innovations can support the building’s drive for optimum efficiency and sustainability. The elevators can travel the equivalent of more than 25.2 km an hour, and are a real milestone development for Brazil’s building landscape.”
In addition to the corporate tower, the project will bring together 13,500 m² of space for events and a theater, as well as a large covered plaza that will integrate the building with the public space to host exhibitions and musical events. thyssenkrupp Elevator will provide a total of 27 elevators across the different building areas. 23 elevators will serve the 29 floors of the commercial tower – 16 of which will be for the exclusive use of passengers, four will be for the garage floors, two will be for cargo transportation and one will be for the restaurant. The other four elevators will be installed in the theater, which will occupy a six-storey building next to the tower and with a capacity of 500 people.
The whole Birmann 32 site has been designed with environmental protection in mind, with forward-thinking and sustainable construction methods and components. The project will be a new reference in corporate buildings in São Paulo, from the famed architect Chien Chung “Didi” Pei of Pei Partnership Architects, who created the Ronald Regan Medical Center at the University of Los Angeles and the renovated Fine Arts Museum of Boston. thyssenkrupp’s equipment in the building will provide exclusive features, such as the AGILE Call Anticipation system of touch-screen card and terminal screens, and AGILE Elevators Management, which allows building managers to schedule the elevators in line with building users’ needs. Installed in computers, in the control room, at the concierge desk and even on smartphones, the AGILE Elevators Management system allows elevators to be scheduled to arrive in specific areas of the building in high-traffic times, and can be disabled at low demand times to save energy.
The operation of the elevators will be more efficient with non-permanent magnet-driven machines and the regenerative energy system, technology that allows the building to use some of the energy created by the elevator during its operation, resulting in up to 35% energy savings. This technology is critical to the sustainability of the project’s LEED Platinum pre-certification.
The Birmann 32 elevators will also be connected to MAX, thyssenkrupp’s predictive maintenance solution for elevators. Based on Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) solutions from the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, MAX can detect elevator failures before they cause, for example, equipment downtime. In this way, it reduces by half the current time that the lifts are out of operation, significantly increasing the availability of equipment and the efficiency of transportation in large cities.
thyssenkrupp Elevator has a strong reputation in forward-thinking design to meet the needs of modern cities. With average building heights becoming taller every year, thyssenkrupp has built a series of ground-breaking mobility innovations to ensure that buildings can operate at optimum efficiency and that cities remain the best ever places to live. From its TWIN system to the rope-less horizontal-vertical MULTI lift, thyssenkrupp Elevator understands how urban landscapes work and what is needed to ensure they are fit for both current and future generations to enjoy.
