Contribution from Duisburg to World Youth Day 2005:ThyssenKrupp Stahl donates chalices and ciboria for Eucharist celebrations
The vessels, based on detailed specifications from Father Manfred Kollig, head of liturgy at the World Youth Day office, were designed and assembled in the apprentice workshops at the company?s Duisburg and Bochum sites. Once the design had been finalized by prospective draftsmen using a computer program and specimens had been produced in aluminum, the chalices and ciboria were drawn and pressed into shape by an external company using one millimeter thick Nirosta stainless steel sheet. The apprentices then milled the handles from steel bars and attached the lids to the chalices and ciboria. Following a quality inspection, they were then carefully packed and sent to the World Youth Day organization office.
