Christening and launching of a 2,700 TEU container ship for ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems in Emden
The new construction with the number 548 was christened in the name "Conti Emden" at Nordseewerke - a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems - on 9th December 2005 at around 11.30 am. Godmother is the wife of the Managing Partner of the GEBAB, Sabina Prinzen. Representatives of the client, the shipping company, the shipyard as well as numerous guests and visitors from Emden were present afterwards at the launch.
With this 2,700 TEU container ship (which corresponds to a load-bearing capacity of 2,700 20-foot standard containers) the third of a total of eight ships of this size is taking the water at the Nordseewerke. Production of the first unit of the 3,400 TEU container ship family newly developed by the Nordseewerke will begin in the autumn of 2007.
The ship originally commissioned by the GEBAB in Meerbusch is being taken over by the CONTI shipping company in Putzbrunn / Munich. 71 container ships of different sizes are currently underway resp. being built for this shipping company. The total load-bearing capacity of the CONTI shipping company container fleet amounts to around 320,000 TEU. The CONTI shipping company is one of the world's biggest owners of container ships, with a share of more than 3.3% of the world's container fleet.
The container ship was built according to Germanischer Lloyd regulations and has the following master data:
