ThyssenKrupp Stahl supplies colored steel sheet for commercial and industrial building
In the past few years, a silent revolution has been taking place at ThyssenKrupp Stahl: wherever the company has erected new facilities and buildings on its own premises, the standard drab facades of previous decades have been replaced by attractive colors. The list of colorful industrial buildings is impressive and growing all the time: anyone driving eastbound past the Duisburg Beeck exit on Germany`s A42 highway will see the hot strip slitting facility to their left with its striking green facade and integrated wave-shaped solar elements. The new Duisburg-Hamborn power station has also been given a colorful look, as has the Schwelgern coke plant, which will start operation in March of this year. The new push-pull pickling line in Bochum features greens, blues, pinks and whites both outside and in. Colorful highlights at the Dortmund Westfalenhütte steel mill are provided by hot-dip galvanizing line 8, the Dortmunder OberflächenCentrum surface engineering center and the former advertising wall of the Hoesch-Anwendungstechnik applications technology operation. ThyssenKrupp Stahl has also exported the idea of colored facilities beyond Germany`s borders: the Tagal hot-dip galvanizing line in the Chinese city of Dalian will also be given a colorful design using colors from the ReflectionsOne collection for building with steel. The organic coil-coated steel sheets are state of the art - featuring for example verified UV resistant finishes and premium quality coating , including PVDF paints.
Colored buildings as public relations
Why should businesses use colored steel sheet? Color designer Friedrich Ernst von Garnier is convinced that color can be used to turn buildings to public relations effect. He developed the color designs used on all the new and renovated buildings at ThyssenKrupp Stahl. He feels that the way a building is painted should not be left to personal taste - buildings must communicate appeal and individuality, forge links with man and the environment, fit in with their surroundings, in short they should come across as something natural. The use of color as a distinguishing feature in industrial building also improves the way company is perceived emotionally: colorful buildings offer ecology for the eyes and boost the motivation of people working there.
Apart from these esthetic qualities, there is also a practical background to ThyssenKrupp Stahl`s use of color in industrial building: as a manufacturer of high-quality coil-coated colored sheets, ThyssenKrupp Stahl is providing subtle yet lasting evidence of steel`s potential as a modern construction material. "With our ReflectionsOne range, we and our construction elements subsidiaries are bringing a fresh and colorful new approach to the market for steel wall and roof elements and cementing our public image as a modern industrial company," says ThyssenKrupp Stahl CEO Dr. Karl-Ulrich Köhler.
