2008 Olympic Games in China: Major orders for ThyssenKrupp Elevator
ThyssenKrupp Elevator has been commissioned to supply a total of 318 passenger transportation systems for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (People’s Republic of China). 16 elevators, ten escalators and 90 moving walks have already been installed in the new Terminal 3 of Beijing International Airport, designed by UK star architect Lord Norman Foster. They will ensure fast and safe transportation of athletes and visitors before, during and after the Olympic Games.
By June, 40 elevators and 62 escalators will be installed in the Wukesong Cultural and Sports Center, a 350,000 square meter multifunctional area in which the basketball teams among others will battle for medals. The offices of the Olympic Committee are also located here. The site also includes the Wukesong Indoor Stadium, numerous sport facilities as well as a shopping center, a hotel and several commercial and office buildings. Products from ThyssenKrupp Elevator will be used in almost all the buildings.
In addition, ThyssenKrupp Elevator is supplying 66 elevators and escalators for the National Conference Centre in the Beijing Olympic Park.
Installations from ThyssenKrupp Elevator will also be used in the port city of Qingdao, 800 kilometers southeast of Beijing, where the sailing competitions will be held. Ten escalators have been supplied for Qingdao train station and eleven elevators and 13 escalators will be used in the Olympic Sailing Center.
