Thanks to increasing processing power and improved software tools, we can now design entire car production lines, complete with machines, robots, and handling equipment, on the computer.

Faster operation with 3D

Body-in-white (BIW) lines can cover an area the size of several football fields. Hundreds of robots are engaged in putting together a complete BIW out of individual sheet metal parts. They are supplemented by handling equipment, fixtures to hold the components, and joining technology, such as welding tongs to join the sheet metal parts.

All robots, machine islands, and control elements are assembled and tested virtually in a 3-D simulation. That means we can turn up at the customer with a virtually validated line and significantly reduce commissioning time for the real production line.
