Digitized company magazines

Works magazines are valuable historical documents and sources. This is because they bear witness both to economic and technical changes and to the further development of work structures and relations. thyssenkrupp Corporate Archives has an extensive collection of various company magazines covering the Ruhr region from Hoesch in Dortmund and the Oberhausen iron and steel works to August Thyssen-Hütte and Niederrheinische Hütte in Duisburg. thyssenkrupp Corporate Archives has now had part of the company magazines from the last 100 years of companies in the steel producing and processing industry in the Ruhr region digitized to make the bulky source more accessible for research and easier to search. To this end thyssenkrupp Corporate Archives received funding from the "WissensWandel" cultural funding program.

With the magazine "Echo der Arbeit," Hüttenwerk Oberhausen AG (HOAG for short, and subsequently Thyssen Niederrhein AG) informed its workforce and retirees about everything worth knowing about their workplace.

"Echo der Arbeit" was published continuously from 1949 to 1986 with a print run of up to 17,000 issues, initially twice a month as a relatively thin magazine of around 14 pages each and from the 1960s onward in monthly intervals with a larger number of pages. During this time, the magazine underwent several revisions in terms of content and design.
